SWAKOPMUND – REST AND RELAXATION AT LAST!

“DIZZY” ARRIVED TO A WIND SWEPT SWAKOPMUND, NAMIBIA’S PREMIER HOLIDAY RESORT. WE HAVE DECIDED TO REST OUR WEARY BODIES AND WILL NOT BE SETTING UP CAMP, BUT RATHER STAYING IN SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION FOR THREE DAYS AT THE SWAKOPMUND MUNICIPAL BUNGALOWS (YOU HAVE TO SEE THE HUMOUR HERE!). OUR NEXT THREE DAYS WILL BE FULL OF ACTIVITY IN SO FAR AS GETTING OUR LAUNDRY WASHED AT A LAUNDRETTE (WHICH IS FAST BECOMING A LUXURY TO EVEN FIND SOMEONE THAT OFFERS LAUNDRY FACILITIES), FINANCES FOR THE TRIP, VEHICLE REPAIRS – OIL CHANGE, AND OUR ONGOING NETWORK PROBLEMS WITH TRYING TO ACCESS OUR EMAILS AND WEBSITE FROM OUR MODEMS. Janes Journal update for August

9th August Me at Epupa Falls

Gee Wiz time flies!!!!  Its been two weeks since I last updated my journal. I blame the delay due to the fact that we’ve had no internet access since the last week of July (well someone has to be blamed don’t they? J). Much has changed over the last two weeks. For one the weather has improved radically! I am now sporting a tan and the hairdryer and make-up are a long distance reminder of Cape Town (don’t worry girls, I’ve still got the hair dye!!!). Dizzy breathes again!

9th August

I think Im going to have to create an “unhappy” page on the website, which consists of inadequate or incompetent or just plain shoddy suppliers!!!  Dizzy2’s side lights have gone under the awning! That means that all of our outdoor night lights no longer exist after only 3 weeks of being on the road, and hey – I ain’t driving back to CT to get my warranty validated!!!  I hate the injustice of it all!  [read more...]

Thank you!!!

There are people that you meet along the way that deserve a BIG THANK YOU!!!….something we all too often forget to do. This section acknowledges people that have helped us along our journey. [read more...]

Dizzy lost a tyre!!!

About Dizzy  Dizzy having a new tyre fitted

Poor Dizzy – not one week into trip and she lost a shoe!!!  Her tread was lost on the Richtersveld….we hadn’t even crossed the border. I (Jane) was heartbroken – I take taken heed from Jean and Hannelie Visser when they returned from their year of driving around Africa and Europe about tyre pressures, and while it gets frustrating getting in and out of the vehicle [read more...]

Jane’s Journal update between Cape Town and Namibia

Mmm…where to begin I know not!  I need to keep you, our readers, interested in reading our website. I personally (Jane) have thought about writing from my heart, but then that would mean sharing a part of me that I’m not quiet ready to share with everyone yet (especially people I haven’t yet met, or know very well), and then again there’s humour….

Cape Town to Namibia

Himba Woman

17TH JULY 2009 – CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA

WE ONLY MANAGED TO LEAVE CAPE TOWN AT TWO O CLOCK YESTERDAY AFTERNOON - JANE HAD COUNTLESS BELONGINGS, CLOTHS, POSSESSIONS AND EQUIPMENT TO HAND OUT OR DROP OFF,  BEFORE  WE COULD HEAD OUT OF THE “MOTHER” CITY. WE POINTED “DIZZY’ IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION AND JANE PROVIDED US WITH AN AFTERNOON’S OFF-ROAD ENTERTAINMENT AS WE HURRIED TO BEAT FRIDAYS TRAFFIC OUT OF THE CITY. OUR UNPLANNED ROUTE TOOK US THREE HOURS UP THE WEST COAST TOO THE SMALL FISHING TOWN OF ST HELENA.

AFTER MUCH FRANTIC PHONING, WE MANAGED TO FIND ONE NIGHTS ACCOMMODATION AT A SMALL FAMILY RUN MOTEL OVERLOOKING THE BAY.

EVERY SO OFTEN, YOU MEET SOMEONE WHOSE ENTHUSIASM IS SO INFECTIOUS…..     [read more...]
